100th Post Hat Giveaway!

EDIT: 20/07/2011 The giveaway is now closed! Thank you for your support :) The winner will be announced later today.

I wanted to do something special for my 100th post and what could be better than my first giveaway!

So here it is, a lovely, if I do say so myself, crocheted hat for your Odeco. It is handmade by myself in a lovely, soft variegated blue cotton with a green cotton leaf and fabric flowers.

These hats will be available in my upcoming etsy shop from the end of July so your Odeco will be able to wear hers in advance depending upon where you live. The giveaway is open to all Odeco lovers regardless of where you live in the world.

The giveaway will be open until 12pm UK time on Tuesday the 19th of July. All you need to do is leave a comment below with your first name and the name of your favourite Odeco doll. Please do not comment more than once. You may post a second comment if you tweet about this giveaway, as a thank you for your kindness. Please leave a way for me to contact you if you win by leaving your twitter handle for example or email address. Blog addresses are also fine if you have a contact me section on your blog.

After the closing date I will count the entries and input them to random.org. Your numbers will be allocated in the order that the comments were left. So for example, if you commented first your number is one. If you commented second your number is 2 and so on.

Good luck!

Vicky

Please note: Only the hat is available in the giveaway. Nothing else shown in the pictures is included.

Dyeing a Wig for the First Time

So, last week I blogged about giving my Odeco the BLEACH dip-dye look and I got around to it this week...

I actually selected a Dylon hand-dye colour called Tropical Green and as you can see it hasn't taken especially well. I'm not sure if this is down to whatever has set the hair in its crimped style or simply because this dye isn't made for synthetic materials.

I used plenty of salt to set the dye and also added some vinegar as recommended by a member of BK. The vinegar did make it go weirdly frothy and smell awful though! It took a lot of dipping and washing to get this pale colour so next time I would definitely get hold of a dye suitable for synthetics to see if I can get a bolder colour. I had been considering ipoly but I have since read that acid dyes are much better for dying nylon, which is what I am intending to practice dying next.

Having said all that, this pale colour is really growing on me and makes me think of how a mermaid might style her hair, if in fact they existed! It's lovely and soft but I veer between "it looks pretty" to "it looks dirty".

If you have any tips for dyeing synthetic doll hair please leave them in the comments section - thanks in advance!

New Look for Odeco

One of the reasons I love my Odeco so much is how easy it is to change her look. I've had this wig for an age without using it as I originally intended to re-root it. I saw it laying all new and sad in its box (yes, I have an unhealthy habit of giving human traits to inanimate objects..) and decided to whip it out for an afternoon photo shoot. For an idea of what she looked like before, check out the Odeco makeover I did using Ringo back in January.

I'm now thinking about giving her the super-trendy BLEACH treatment with a nice bit of dip-dye. I reckon I'm going to give acid green a go and if it turns out rubbish, I'll deffo get my re-root on. Sounds dangerously like a plan!

p.s Please ignore Ringo's slightly lazy eye!

For Japan!

As many of you know, Effiethedal is running the most mega-ist raffle this side of doll-dom! An awesome Odeco package has now been added to the HUGE prize list including a beautiful doll donated by Mirai138 of flickr and six, that's SIX outfits to kit her out in. That's an entire wardrobe which includes M for Monkey, Bambina Carabina, Dutch Blythe Fashion with Mthalen boots, Feltland, Bearly Dressed, Jimmy Trickle... and me! That's my donation above. I suppose that's pretty obvious though!

Get your tickets here and help the Japanese Red Cross out with as much funds as you can!

ETA: In my eagerness I forgot to mention that the winner has the option of free customisation of the Odeco by Becca! Brilliant :)

Coming Soon To An Etsy Near You!

I have been sewing for my dolls for quite a long time now and sewing in general for even longer so I like to think I'm quite good at it :) On that basis I thought it would be fun to have an Etsy shop to sell some of the things I enjoy making. I will also have a stall at this year's Blythe Con UK, so I'd best get cracking really!

I will mainly be making clothes and accessories for Blythe but am hoping to spread the love to Odeco and WonderFrog too. When my etsy is up and running (hopefully this weekend) I will be sure to post an exclusive voucher code here to take advantage of if you fancy - good times as ever!

Makeover!

My Odeco received a new wig from me for Christmas and it arrived last week. I decided to create a little makeover story today because I was surprised how big a difference the wig made to her look although I don't know why! Full length pics below
.

The 'before' pic is my Chotto Punk Odeco in her stock wig and outfit and the 'after' is the same Odeco in her new Petworks wig and cute outfit I made her.

I kind of wanted the blue wig in this series but couldn't get hold of it but I think the bright pink has really worked out with her vivid eyeshadow. It is an exceptionally close match for Prima Dolly London Blythe's hair.

Both looks warm my cockles though. Ringo has to be my favourite doll at the mo.
